   Best case scenario for America as a civilization is Atlantis, in which its collapse is so catastrophic it throws humanity back into the Stone Age and its memory only survives in myth and legend. Worst case is we wind up like Rome and mountains of evidence survive showing off just how faggy and retarded we are.

     @djsumdog I have no strong opinion on the subject, but it's more fun to assume that were they alive today, they'd be relieved to know that they were remembered as a cool and mysterious advanced civilization instead of for transvestites sucking horse cock.

     Atlantis and most of the old civilizations most likely vanished, not due to hubris, but from a comet that broke apart and caused several impacts at the end of the Younger Dryas. The ice sheets likely absorbed (and thereby hid) evidence of impacts. Most ancient stories about a serpent bringing about the end of the world (including the Bible's) likely refer to the Sky Snake, e.g. the comet.
