   I didn’t even know about this event until someone referenced it at work. Did YOU know that only 10 years ago, the taliban managed to actually carry out an attack that destroyed EIGHT Harriers?

   Pretty wild stuff. Even funnier how they have to DEBUNK the idea that the Tongan detachment was always asleep while on guard duty instead of y’know, watching for infiltrating teams of talibanis

     This ragtag group destroyed 6 Harriers and a C-130, with 3 refueling stations and 6 hangars blown up too. Maybe I’m just inattentive, since I wasn’t around back then, but this seems like it was a pretty big deal and I’ve never heard it referenced

     Also, just noticed a funny detail: It was in response to a video stereotyping muslims as violent hotheads.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot IIRC it fell to the maintainers and other support personnel to finally stop the attack. And the only people who died were both White. I guess the Taliban let the tongans sleep.

     They tried to make it sound thrilling but instead it paints the brits as once again of little more than middling competence.

     I wanted to see reference to the tongans since this one supposedly had it but I didn’t see it, must have deleted lest they reinforce the truth that islanders aren’t very good watchment
