my damn test monitor has only one input button and way too many inputs, plus the input button is right next to the power button AND it takes 10 seconds to switch inputs.
so if it ever gets pressed by accident, you have to step through
RCA 1, RCA 2, S-VIDEO, COMPONENT, VGA, ANT, CABLE

oh hey, it's doing that analog-buttons trick!
See, There's only 3 wires for eight buttons: voltage, ground, and "key".
Each button has a resistor inline, and the microcontroller on the other end measures the resistance of the keypad, and can figure out which key is pressed based on that.

okay so this chip, the IC901, is a GENESIS gm2221-LF: That's an all in one LCD monitor controller. So it's got LVDS transmitters, OSD support, it can input analog RGB, CCIR 656 video input from NTSC/PAL video decoders, generate test patterns, and assorted video color adjustments.
It is NOT 8051: it is a bit weirder

Our other big chip, IC1 is a MICRONAS VCT 49XYF.
That's an all-in-one TV chip. It handles decoding composite video, VGA, video scaling, OSD (again), closed captions, and it's got a microcontroller. Which one is an interesting question.

anyway, as for the microcontroller... the VCT 38xxx datasheet says that it has a 6502-compatible.
But another site said the VCT49 is 8051-based.
