1. \0 in C is just a special case of octal byte literal

2. :debian: still ships an ancient version of polkit that doesn't have JS support, specifically out of concerns about running a whole JS interpreter in such an important/privileged system process

which makes a lot of sense, but then how come anything works at all, considering everyone's been writing JS-based .rules for ages
