would it be possible to “redeem” someone as an adult who went through shitty education?
-
@cell there's always hope
-
@lain just a thought after seeing the usual education statistics, what school and environment went through and wondering if that determines adulthood outcomes
there’s also the tangential stuff, because someone went to so and so school they have connections and opportunities in places people otherwise wouldn’t
-
@cell @lain statistics describe populations, not individuals. School is a moderate investment of time and not the only place you gain connections from
-
@lain one silly example of the latter: my rent only went up ~10% (in an economy where there are common reports where rent increases are in the order of 50-100%)
all because i price matched with a friend who got preferential rates cause they went to the same school as their landlord
-
@cell sure, there's a lot of luck and circumstantial issues involved. but as eal said, school isn't the only place to make connections. especially in SG, i'm sure you can go to a meetup for topic X every other night and get to know people like that, you never know who might help you some time.
