   While Vietnam benefits from its ties with China, we have been burning ours. China is the top FDI in Vietnam. Despite American efforts to get Vietnam back into its fold, the Vietnamese have been playing coy and playing off the Americans against the Chinese to get them to put their monies where their mouths are. In our case, we drum up "incidents" in the South China Sea and even threaten to pull our ambassador back from China and send theirs back to them. Did you know that Vietnam occupies the most number of features in the South China Sea in the disputed areas? Yet they continue to have a good relationship through the conduct of diplomacy. In our case, we're back to being the American doormat in the region. Pathetic.
