OK so regarding the capability of MNT Pocket Reform flashing/updating its own system controller: that works now. the RP2040 is recognized on the second USB host (connected internally via removable jumpers). then one can use e.g. picotool to reboot RP2040 into flashing mode and load new firmware. because of the new latch IC on the board, the power and display enables will stay on during this process.
the bottom line is that this will allow you to update the firmware without opening the device.
