Wtf? Google admits the Gemini AI demo hands-on video was staged: A video showcasing the capabilities of Google's artificial intelligence (AI) model which seemed too good to be true might just be that. This is how scams operate. Unbelievable.

If anyone can beat Openai, it is Google. Much of the early work regarding AI was done at Google. There was no need for the shenanigans

What if Google was AI all along..? -
lithiumflower_ (lithiumflower_@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 09-Dec-2023 21:27:49 JST lithiumflower_ @nixCraft @cygnathreadbare the model is still better than GPT4 across the board, just not as good as they tried to sell, that's enough to explain the jump on the stock in my opinion. Many people were waiting for google's response to GPT4. If the videos weren't fake then the stock would have risen more than that.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 10-Dec-2023 08:47:21 JST Nazo @nixCraft I think that's actually all the more reason why they felt a need to fake it: they had an early head start, yet they've fallen behind. Or at least so everyone thinks (including them.) Though I'd argue the complex algorithms and such Google was using before more resemble AI than LLMs do. (Still a long long way to go even then, but at least it was on the right track. LLMs are likely a dead end for AI.)
