My coworker brought in a big electron tube/valve. Anybody wanna guess what it is?

@foone @tubetime a little searching and I'm coming up with the words "deuterium thyratron", which I'm going to need you to explain.
@vathpela @tubetime correct! I'm not really sure why it needs to be full of deuterium, but it's a thyratron, acting as a switch/rectifier.
@vathpela got it! It's a thyratron filled with deuterium gas. (or it was. it's probably leaked by now)
that's used as a switch/rectifier.
@foone My first thought was "rather inadvisable buttplug" and then I decided I probably ought not to have any more thoughts today.
@baljemmett I'm pretty sure my sex ed class had a whole day spent on "don't put electron tubes in your butt"
@foone @baljemmett I can tell you went to a technical school... :)
@baljemmett I would argue that making electron tubes with flared bases would be even more dangerous than not.
(Because if it doesn't have a flared base, hopefully that'll discourage slightly more people to not put it in their butt. )
@foone Especially ones without a flared base!
@robinsyl I hope you cover it with some lead shielding though, because this thing emits x-rays!
@foone I don't care what it is. I want it in my tube amp asap
