     @BowsacNoodle The Water and Power company was almost certainly subsidized by a large government in order to establish that level of market dominance.
     
     You don't get a small government from authoritarianism. You need a large powerful executive to enforce the authority of the state. Just because the things they say they oppose today are things someone can get behind doesn't mean that's the way it stays. People move in and out of power. Established patterns seem to persist.

     @thatguyoverthere Government bad, but I would be okay if government not bad. Small government with strong antitrust provisions to prevent libertarian tankgirl water wars type abuses would be preferred. Getting there might take a strongman.

     @thatguyoverthere i recently had a conversation with exactly this type. literally said collectivism can be good, went out of his way to defend having a state, while lamenting about being unfree.
