   Neat statistic. Although being the weep I am I wish that Japanese was lower don't need more filthy foreigners leaking into Japanese only game and manga sites to whine about it on bird app; or even worse attempting to localize and distribut it more widely.
   
   I'm also a filthy foreigner, but I'm enough of a weeb the consciously keep my yucky influence away from the media I ingest.

     If it's any consolation, it's not like the people "studying" with duolingo will ever get anywhere. So many people having an interest in it is bad though I agree. Hopefully they stay confined to duolingo

     @luithe @locagainstwall I've used a couple flash card tools, but I think textbook and workbook are the best way. I'll spend much time on penmanship because I barely write in English much less in Japanese, but effectively typing is a good skill

     @AommAomm Get some basic vocabulary down with a core vocab deck, get the basic grammar down and then just do whatever you want. Play what you want, read what you want, watch what you want, as long as it's in Japanese. You look up unknown words and grammar patterns and learn like that. Start with easy shit and move up from there. Add the new words you learned to Anki if you're having trouble remembering them. That's all it takes.

     @locagainstwall I used to take in person classes but my schedule got a little tight so I switched over to Duolingo, small lessons are a lot more palatable than sitting with the teacher for 2 hours. Duolingos convenient to practice in between hitting the books.
     
     But yeah, because Duolingo gamifies everything I feel like it's not super serious for learning. I see some people who have like 10 languages they're studying; there's no way you're actively putting genuine effort into that many things at once

     @AommAomm Oh and at the start you might wanna study some basic kanji by themselves to get used to it. Isolated kanji study basically. Not necessary but it helped me
