@colonelj all of a sudden I have a massive ear wax blockage and pharmacists are like "yeah I dunno man we used to sell stuff for that, but then COVID happened. Have you considered buying mineral oil? oh yeah we don't sell that either. Go put some olive oil in your ear".
I think the pharmacist is retarded too, I asked about putting diluted hydrogen peroxide and he said that was bad or something. Even though I'm pretty sure that's what commercial ear wax drops are.
IM TROOOOSTING THE SCIENCE AND PUTTING OLIVE OIL IN MY EAR LIKE MY ANCIENT ANCESTORS!!!!!! (it isn't doing shit)
@crunklord420@colonelj you can funnel water into your ear to push out the wax, just make sure to place a towel around your neck because it’s gnarly. That’s literally that the doctors did before my Cello recital when I couldn’t hear. Globs of wax came out.
@crunklord420@colonelj ah good luck then, but yeah hydrogen peroxide with a little alcohol is generally what ear drops are. Hang in there :’( when they did it to me they used a plastic tube to push out the wax with consistent water pressure
@teratology@colonelj it's just using the fire to create a vacuum in your ear canal. Same idea as the trick where you unpop a jar lid by letting a match burn all the oxygen inside the jar.
@teratology@crunklord420@colonelj How does it happen to begin with? Do you niggas never bathe or swim or scratch your ears? Genuinely curious as I've never had it happen to me or any of my acquaintances.
@teratology@colonelj@crunklord420 So far all the references to ears being literally clogged with wax come from anglosphere so I'm going to assume it's a specific American problem and said ear wax is in actuality excess McDonald's grease getting unsuccessfully discarded by body.
@Saxophone3784@colonelj@teratology I honestly think the pharmacist just didn't know and said not to because she didn't know. I ended up watching like a bunch of videos on YouTube of this one doctor who does ear obstruction removal, and he seems to use sodium bicarbonate drops when he needs to soften wax: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEAzKlbUj2w
I ended getting a nurse to irrigate my ear with like a $10 squirt bottle attachment. Took like 1 minute.
@crunklord420@teratology@colonelj Did they tell why hydrogen peroxide is bad? Tbh I have been cleaning such blockages with diluted hydrogen peroxide for years. So far no issues. I would not try with just water, since if the water gets trapped there, then you risk an ear infection which is an extremely bad pain.
One thing what doctors say is that it is very bad idea to use drops and hydrogen peroxide if your ear drum is perforated. Otherwise I dont see what the issue kay be? I use 3% hydrogen peroxide a 2-3 times a day for a few days. Each time a few drops in the ear and then lie down for 5 minutes on the side, then just softly clean with smth soft ( not q tip). Afterwards you can use hairdryer for a few minutes to make sure no liquid stays in your ear.
Another thing you should be careful about is dry skin eczema, which can happen in the ear. Then your blockage is not just from the ear wax and it would be better to see a specialist.
