Then I'd say "Yes, I know that." Everyone says that when I say the completely sensible and true thing that most networks are not ready for every device to have a publicly routeable address, and then they miss the actual point, which is that most networks are not ready for every device to have a publicly routeable address.

Nowadays servers have some sort of "make the lights start blinking" thing and no optical drives.
I have yet to lose a computer that is on and is working and that I can ssh to, though. You could try flipping breakers until it stops responding to pings and then you'll know what's where. -
