    So iddqd.chat can’t federate properly with matrix.org, and only with matrix.org. Every other instance I’ve tried works, so the issue logically wouldn’t be iddqd.chat. Yet that makes no sense because matrix.org is the canonical instance.

    Is it possible that they actually just fucked up their own shit so badly? Seriously?

      Yeah nah, it was working just fine until like a week ago and @CumskinFoidPuncher69420 brought it up. I get around to looking at it now and it’s just outright refusing to federate with matrix.org for reasons unbeknownst to me.

      Yeah that’s the exact problem I’m running into. matrix.org won’t receive anything from my instance until after events from another instance step in.

      I want to make my own non-retarded federated chat service but I just know I’m going to have to go down the same rabbit holes everybody else did on the e2ee question to make it actually worth using from that angle… and then I’ll end up guilty of the same shit I accused everybody else of.

      And that is, the UI/UX will be hot garbage just like every Matrix and every XMPP client.

      IRC has been on life support forever and won’t just fucking die. IN order to get something resembling a modern chat experience you need all this extra shit. Bouncers. NickServs. I don’t think modern IRC variants even have things like e2ee, display names, or avatars, which are considered vital for your average chat user now.
