@Arcana @mischievoustomato @phoenix hard agree - i get no benefit from doing this.
spotify has the following issues:
- about 0.5% of my main playlist is currently unavailable due to legal reasons, this is the #1 problem
- occasionally they fuck up assigning new songs to the wrong artist
- no FLACs
- costs money
- you don't own a bloody thing
- there is absolutely music missing from spotify. Some major Foetus Albums. 80's Lead into Gold. Neubauten's Perpetuum Mobile. Half of Bauhaus's "The Sky's Gone Out".
now you'd see that list and go "well shit that sucks, fuck spotify", but consider the alternative:
- i will now be responsible for the acquisition of many thousands of songs across many hundreds of albums across a few hundred artists
- I gotta run and publish and maintain the fuckin thing or be forced to use VPN only for when i'm not home
- I already run four torrent VMs and will kill myself if I have to make a fifth
- what am i gonna do at work, huh? log into my shit at home? big fat fuckin no no.
- discovering music will now be a chore, leading to me not discovering music
- those autogenerated playlists are a huge value add, as is the ability to just start playing related music when a playlist or album runs out.
$10/mo is worth every penny for the last two items alone
