   I started playing Azure Lane last night, on my Android tablet. I'm also planning to try Blue Archive and maybe Arknights. So far it seems complicated and I'm not sure I'll stick with it. Never been much of a gamer (or at all really) but I thought I should see what I might have been missing.

     Your not missing out on much, pretty much all gacha games are just waifu collection simulators with gameplay tacked on, and sometimes the story is pretty good.

     @poopernova The only game that really pulled me in was Myst, 30 years ago, and there are no waifus or other characters at all!

     @Wiz @pinemarten Azur Lane is also pretty f2p friendly, Blue Archive is not (spending money is also part of the story lol) and I don't know about Arkknights

     @Wiz I don't use the Google Play store, but only FDroid and APKpure, so getting things installed can be a bit of work.

     @pinemarten@poa.st don't really have any experience on that front, but it's the only gacha I didn't bounce off of. I eventually quit all live service games including gacha, but if you want a taste without being badgered to spend money all the time GFL is the way to go

     Basically Xcom gameplay but with guns in anime girl form and mod support for models + SoL sections with free camera view
     
     I think it's out on china but not in global yet

     @Wiz @pinemarten I still think it's not a good idea because it might EoS (it hasn't for a while, hence, the Cockroach title) so it'd suck if he got invested then lost everything

     It's pretty much still in beta iirc
     China has beta tests and they announced kr/jp but no EN quite yet

     @poopernova @Wiz @pinemarten I used to play Arknights f2p right at the beginning, and it was pretty f2p-friendly.
     Not only it was relatively generous with the pulls, but you also could (with some tinkering and a lot of planning) beat the challenge maps without having to use any 4 or 5* characters.
     
     It's been a few years since I've last played it, tho, IDK if there was too much power creep in the meantime.
