Itanium's weird VLIW/EPIC pipeline was one of the reasons no one bother porting video codecs to it (ignoring that the first generation Itaniums were overpriced and slow as fuck).
I wonder how much of this code is legacy though. Modern systems usually pass this stuff directly to the hardware h264/265/av1 codecs on the cpu and/or video card.
