@Arcana nope, it varies by state to state but on average under 16 its illegal for them to be alone in america, sometimes higher. america is one of the worst countries in the world for child rights and childhood development. it didn't used to be like that either, like most older parents childhoods this was not the case, not for mine, i believe this hysteria started around 1990. massive hysteria around kidnapping and shit (that largely didnt happen) and how bad the country is and they really restricted this shit and even though the crime rates have fallen drastically not just from it being higher but from the times before, people still act like it's that bad, like we're at the peak.
america is a fucking horrible country to raise a child, this is part of why my parents wanted to go back to latvia tbh, that was great as a kid that they did. idk why they came back to the states after though

@mja @Arcana

welp guess I broke a lot of laws as a kid
you could call me a problem child lmao

@mja @Arcana
i mean if you go public education you get shit no matter where you go
but legal restrictions and lack of public spaces? I dont follow
-
@theorytoe @Arcana i mean the standards for places to raise your kids honestly doesnt change much country to country as long as you're somewhat safe? but americas definitely one of the worst with these legal restrictions, lack of public spaces, poor schools, shit like that. but again theres not much variation and as long as its above warzones like yeah its not impossible to do well or shit

@mja @Arcana
also I cant imagine anybody realistically considering raising kids in any of the bigger citites, they are shitholes most of the time
and even more nowso since they have been ""diversified""
also like i honest to god dont think america is the worst place to raise your kids,
its just... different I suppose
