The "you'll own nothing and be happy" world has started a lot sooner than you think.
For users of proprietary slave OS's it already started well over a decade ago. WinDOS with the launch of WinDOS 10, not sure about macOS, but depending on who you ask I'd say somewhere between Mountain Lion and Big Slur, and iOS and Android have been "you'll own nothing and be happy" from day 1.
I could probably even add Ubuntu to the mix, now that version 22.04 LTS and newer are full blown "turn the entire distro in Snap packages".
