     Think about all the culture that is preserved through piracy as well.

     The entire reason westerners know about the PC-98 as a platform is through piracy, Tumblr screenshots of the games, and music uploads.
     
     Then go look at libgen. How many books are preserved and digitized? Some might be for piracy reasons, but the people using them to learn don't want to pay $$$ to go to school or can't easily order a book from Amazon.

     @mimorinka There's so much information and expertise that's been walled around in the last fifty years. It's so bad that when the boomers are all gone, having trained basically no-one to replace them, hundreds of skillsets will go functionally extinct. I can't even begin to estimate the material value of this loss.
