@camedei456 But the important bit is we were told by every authority figure -- parents, teachers, school guidance counselors, religious leaders, the cartoons kids watched -- all taught us to stay in school and then go to college. If kids are expected to defy that in order to avoid life-ruining consequences, socially-imposed ones like debt enforcement at that, that's a society problem. The kids aren't really at fault.
Even assuming they are, the dumb financial choices of 18yos still shouldn't destroy their lives. It just shouldn't. What's the inverse of this? A couple smart financial choices by 18yos should catapult them into the untouchable aristocracy that never needs to work again.
So, yeah, the demand for fast results isn't entirely unfair, when you think about it. I don't think it's realistic, but I do think it's fair.
