   Well, I should clarify, I didn't write it, it's just a blurry view of the video games I have played. The Venn Diagram of stories in which there was a last boss (so basically, video games) and a king (mostly RPGs).

   It can be both. In a typical JRPG, the last boss is either a bad king or someone cast out by either a good king or a bad king, or sometimes the main character's rival. (I'm not sure how or whether the tarot reflects the envious brother/"Cain" archetype.) Sometimes the last boss is an ancient evil beyond comprehension or something. Broad strokes, you know.

     @p@freespeechextremist.com @marine@breastmilk.club Broad strokes, you know.This is the basis of hero's journey and other storytelling research. We just take broad strokes of existing stories and interesting patterns emerge.
     Before the XX century, stories were much more convoluted and natural.
     JRPGs and such are already the fruit of a few generations of storytellers deliberately basing themselves in the hero's journey. This are much cleaner and work better, overall. We just risk not creating new patterns. or not!! We have some thousand years of blind tries (by storytellers) to draw upon anywayI didn't watch most of the Stars War, but I believe I follow.I am talking about your father because I am talking about all fathers. Jung (the psychologist) pioneered research in that. The patterns anthropologists see in stories pair well with the patterns psychologists see in emotion or something. Idk much psychology, actually
     Do mind that these things are tricky. There is a lot of bullshit involved and it's hard to split.
     As any fairy would readily tell you, albeit in a much more convoluted way (since the fairy would need to say "truste me, I am suspicious", which is as much as a paradox as "I am lying".)

     Once someone masters a form, they know how to adhere to it while breaking the rules. Or something like that; like breaking the rules in a meaningful way requires a deep understanding of them. FF6 turned over nearly all the tropes and still had a very engaging storyline.

     Well, my copy of Bullfinch was on the shelf that is a little hard to reach (there's a pile of computer stuff in front of it) but it looks like what Oedipus (speaking of psychology) got was that the sphinx stopped accosting travelers on the road to Thebes. This is an acceptable reward.

     In practice, I just give the server have paranoid CSP settings and also some rate-limiting but that's mostly based on measurement, if that's what you're talking about.

     It's worth finishing but it's like, they do that long dark part in the middle and then they do Groundhog Day and then they remember the initial plotline again.

     Yeah... these moments right now are when a person is tempted to just saw "whatever", don't tell anything to anyone, play their game and manipulate it all so everybody suffers horribly in the end.
     You know me enough to know I could just do it as son as I hit the "reply button" and NO ONE would know until it's too late.
     You also know me enough to know I will not do it.
     I keep playing white until the day I finally snap.
