   Wow, so the other day I shared what #Microsoft does when you search to download #Firefox from #Edge* but they go one step further for #Chrome.

   (I have zero love for either surveillance capitalist but, my goodness, what absolute asshattery. Having spent more time than I’d like testing in #Windows these past two days, I constantly feel like some malevolent entity is trying to exploit me at every turn. Because one is. This OS is a case study in hostile #design.)

     But I’m testing what I’m building on Windows and macOS too so I don’t abandon the folks who have to be there for one reason or another right now. As much as I hate every moment I spend there, we have to build bridges and that means one foot of the bridge might be somewhere you don’t want to be right now.

     Use Firefox on Linux & none of the above applies.
     Add some good ad & privacy intruder extensions & your in good hands on the web.

     Simple!

     @aral I have never regretted switching to Linux. Any time I have to use MS (helping other people sort their computer problems out) there is much swearing.

     @MaryPot It’s such a hard question because there are no good answers. Take a look at LibreWolf (Firefox with private defaults). If that doesn’t work for you, you can use Firefox but you have to configure it turn off their data gathering and “experiments” and set your search engine to DuckDuckGo in the settings.

     May I ask... Which browser do you prefer?

     Someone has recommended Vivaldi to me, but not sure. Getting a bit tired of Chrome "guessing" what I am searching for.

     @aral It was different enough from Chrome to me when the company moved everything to Google Workspace. But fuck both of them nonetheless. Why would you want Chrome in the first place?
