   It can be important for large accounts to pay attention to criticism (as long as it's not actual abuse/prejudice).

   Just had a discussion the other day with someone who was pissed off at me. When we chatted a bit further, it turned out the settings I had on my website were preventing their accessibility features working on their browser.

   So, if I'd filtered them out based on their initial post, I'd have missed out on really important info and totally valid criticism.

     So more people are learning to “ignore the haters” don’t even respond. Don’t let it rest in your mind. Move on— but I think some of the disturbing behaviors of prominent people has roots in this lesson. To be a politician you learn to ignore haters at scale. The same for some leaders of industry— you might even have people close to you reminding you to do this— but sometimes the haters have a point.

     These people never even register the criticism because, like spam, it’s filtered out. 2/

     When a person is famous, (or even just a little popular online) a skill they *must* learn to “ignore the haters” even a modest following of 10,000 people will contain “haters” (I can’t imagine what millions are like) — is normal, but also unnatural. In ordinary human interactions when someone expresses hate towards you — it’s a big deal the top priority becomes addressing the issue. But with thousands of people you simply can’t do this— you can’t engage with every criticism and gripe. 1/
