   I don't know whether to appreciate the centuries of ingenuity it took to create the complex machinery needed to make a cup of coffee, or to call this whole thing pointlessly autistic.

     @white_male @pleasesaybye my espresso machine is sitting on the basement steps. I just put hot water over broken beans. It turns dark and tastes great. I buy beans from a local roaster so they're always nice and fresh. When I go I'll usually buy a drink there too so that's about all the espresso I drink anymore.
     
     You hit the nail on the head. This is a symptom of boredom.

     @pleasesaybye I'm about 4000 cups past schedule of 500 on pressure valves in my espresso machine. These valves lost tightness twice which lead to taste degradation both times and I REALLY can't be bothered to get the $20 valve replacement set.
     
     TL;DR, not bored with life enough to obsess or even care much about coffee.
