Having seen the code quality, I am skeptical, but it is a fun interface.
The shared-plumber 9grid stuff, though...

I think we're talking about different stuff.
SSH BBSen are just old school BBSes running on modern hardware (sometimes) accessible via SSH.
They work great if one wants to be elite and avoid social media especially!

Well, I've seen Enigma 1/2. I don't know about the other ones or what they're like, but it seems like most of them are written in JavaScript and are kind of a mess intenrally. (FSE's accessible through ssh, if you didn't catch the memo. Check the "About" panel on the left for instructions.)

`telnet bbs.poast.org` and say hello some time. It's usually just me on there, but the multi-relay chat works.

That's the best part. You can run any software you want as long as it can be a standalone BBS, then just tunnel an SSH connection to it and have a little script to pretend to be a modem.

@amerika @GrungeQueef @Terry @graf @sjw I don't know what you mean, why would a modem be involved? Or are you talking about just doing a regular PPP connection?
The plumber is the sort of "open by type of thing" component of Plan 9. Public grid shared plumber, combined with shared grid disk, means that everyone that is connected sees the same files opened at the same time. People get excited about attachments, you tell them you would prefer IRC to Matrix and they say "BUT WHAT ABOUT THE ATTACHMENTS". This is an entire shared UI and filesystem in a nested window manager, with accompanying text chat.
