@rlier23 Maybe I’m overthinking it or otherwise am completely off base but I get the feeling that teenagers today have such little life experience in the real world that they treat digital life like it’s real life, and so as they are leaving childhood and in the process of becoming self aware, moral adults, they don’t seem able to see the “actions“ you take in video games as inherently without moral significance. Yeah a lot of them are still using the boomer framing of “engaging in simulated bad behavior in video games is bad because it makes you want to do immoral actions in real life” but they seem a lot more bothered by “immoral” simulated behavior as being bad on its own.
It’s weird, man.

gore and violence are good examples. i've skinned and butchered animals before, i understand how that looks and feels. lots of movies and whatnot will use that not because it's fitting or they have a handle on it, but because they can feel like they're mature adults. they equate media consumption to personal growth.
i play with more normie friends, and i love getting into rounds of UMvC3 just because of how uncomfortable it can make them. they have no idea how to handle sincere feelings of edge of fanservice because they've never approached those topics in any tangible sense. the R rating in the theater is the closest to reality they'll ever get and they treat it like candy.

@ChristiJunior @rlier23 @rainignterror1080p The thing I miss most about '80s and '90s anime, especially movies and OVAs from the era, is that you could have /both/ hot and sexy anime women /and/ hyperviolence. Video games used to be the same way around that era, even into the early 2000s.
It sucks that media that's supposed to be "Mature" is getting sterilized to the point of being bland.
It's like how the PG-13 rating got nerfed from being an almost-R rated experience with less hard swearing, to being bland and almost-PG rated but with more swearing.
