     I love that the shirt she is wearing on the cover of the manga has "kamo negi" or "duck onion" with the outline of something that looks like a duck with an onion sticking out of its back.

     Well, an initial investigation makes me think that it appeared in Pokemon in about 2008. The Arpeggio of Blue Steel manga volume it appeared on the cover of was in 2009. So, it isn't that old.
     
     Which makes me think meme or maybe an inside joke.
