The ducks in the other hand really seem to like the dog house. Maybe I'll attach a little porch so they can have am easier time getting in and out without making a duck ramp and taking it away from the dogo who probably will never use it but should always have the option.
The space under my coop is about 3ft high by 4x8 and in the winter I cover the sides and back with hay bales to provide insulation. It's actually meant for the ducks (actually just a biproduct of how I built my coop), but she loves it. I framed it out and 3 sides have hardware cloth with the front open. The floor is hemp bedding same as I use in the coop. It's essentially a 2 floor coop-

I built it for under a grand. Some of my cost was saw blades, but really box store lumber is outrageously expensive. That and a few other projects inspired me to buy a saw mill. -

Buying wood that is less stable because they only harvest sap wood these days rather than cutting down a few of my own trees is kind of dumb tbh. If a single project is going to cost nearly a thousand dollars I think spending 10-15k for something that can outlive me and produce much more stable lumber and pays for itself in less than a decade is reasonable. I can even buy seasoned logs far cheaper than home depot lumber, and whether I harvest my own timber or buy it already cut to a length I can fit on the saw, I can make just about any material I need. I can make quarter sawn 8/4 material that would normally cost hundreds (or in some cases thousands) of dollars for next to nothing. If I wanted to I could even rough sawn lumber. In fact a friend of mine is currently borrowing it for just that purpose. He's the one that rought cut the cherry I am using on top of the book case. -

I bought cedar boards to build a compost bin once. Nearly a hundred dollars for a 4x4x4 cube. fucking ridiculous. I could build 10 of them with a single log. -
