Some dude on this site was talking how trash Helicopters are vs fixed wing CAS and Im like, okay but, you know Everything one does and the other does has their downsides and upsides?
I mean yeah an Heli is slower and less able to escape, it doesnt need to stay moving towards its target to hit it

@Gerfand @Svantovit You also have to look armed and dangerous at all times. If the enemy realizes you have run out of missiles than they will take all the time in the world to line up the perfect shot. They may also try to shoot you down with 50 cal. or with a plane that does have a autocannon
-
@Gerfand @Svantovit Having a autocannon denies the enemy thinking your a easy kill
-
@Groomschild @Svantovit Yeah but if you are in autocanon range 90% it means you really over extended.
-
@Groomschild @Svantovit Its a solution looking for a problem
-
@Groomschild @Svantovit That said Helis are still extremely usefull the real question tho is why keep the canon
-
@Gerfand @Svantovit Autocannon are the kind of feature you think are useless or obsolete till they save your life.
Helicopter also have sensors to detect if lasers are being pointed at them then the autocannon can shoot at the launcher before the missiles is launched
-
@Gerfand @Svantovit Heli are just consider obsolete in a direct combat role because of the prevalence of anti air missiles. CAS planes also have the same issue but it's easier to bail out of a plane because you don't have rotating helicopter blades above your head.
Military transport helicopters are here to stay of course with there only competitor being hybrid helicopters like CV-22s
-
@Groomschild @Svantovit Yeah but at that point just KA-52
-
Which requires more maintenance, regularly?
-
@Svantovit Depends on what Heli and what jet, the maintenace is also different for both, but the main thing is that thry are not the same.
-
@Groomschild @Gerfand @Svantovit case in point:

@Curvin @Svantovit @Gerfand @Groomschild Fucking urbies
