@charliebrownau need it for a specific task or just adding to your tools?
-
@thatguyoverthere Gday
I will be making
King Single Bed Frame
Laptop Stand
Throne Chair for PC
outside balcony chair
and
adding it to the collection
Also got a Metal Set square today also
-
@charliebrownau nice. I made a laptop stand last week, and this week I've been working on a bookshelf. Eventually I'd like to build a chair too, but I don't know if I trust my craftsmanship enough yet.
-
@charliebrownau That's actually next on the list :)
-
@thatguyoverthere You need a good Wardrobe/Storage unit for your pew pew
-
@thatguyoverthere I was actually fixing an outside chair at work today
after lunch
Before Lunch was Grinding Metal Horse Yard Posts
to remove all the rust
Few days ago I fixed a wardrobe
I fucking hate all this MDF and cheap chipboard shit
I swear its glued sawdust
-
@charliebrownau pretty much. MDF is great for certain applications, but imo furntiture is not a great use case.
Speaking of repairs, yesterday I had to grind the chipbreaker on my plane down quite a bit to get rid of a pretty gnarly bit of damage.
-
@thatguyoverthere I was considering replacing my plastic toolbox
with a custom built wood toolbox
or
make a tote with handle
so i dont need to lug shit around
Maybe I just need wheels on my toolbox
-
@charliebrownau As your collection grows you will find one tool box hardly suits your needs. I have a wheel around in the garage with sockets and stuff, but I have a bunch of tools that are essentially homeless and a bunch of toolboxes that are kind of set upwith a specific use in mind (Most electrical stuff is in a yellow toolbox for example). I want to expand on this and give all the homeless tools a box to live in that makes it easy to find them when the time comes.
Then I have shop tools that basically just live on the walls or around the work bench, and a bunch of power tools and accessories that have their own boxes. I'd like to build a place for my planes and chisels rather than just moving them out of the way when they aren't needed, and I want to build a router bit box that can group all the bits from a couple sets and leave room for me to add to the collection. I also want to build a sharpening station instead of keeping my loose stones under the bench where they could get damaged.
-
@charliebrownau if you do want a wheely toolbox, I'd go for one of those stackable systems. My wheely box is a craftsman with 3 separate boxes that all stack neatly on one another.
-
@charliebrownau And then of course you have the power tools that are basically furniture on their own. I have a table saw and router table I can move around on my own, but they take up enough room that there is no good permanent home for them in my shop. My drill press is a bit to awkward so I need help moving it more than a few feet. I don't really get much use out of it currently because of where it is, but once I get my garage shop finished up a bit more I think I can make a spot in the basement where I can actually use it which would be awesome because I have mortising jigs and stuff that would make some of the projects on my list a bit easier.

@charliebrownau pneumatic tools are good, but most compressors require an AC power source anyway. I definitely prefer a good hose fed nail gun over those damn pasloads.
-
@thatguyoverthere Ideally I would want to start stocking up on air tools
I dont think AC power tools
and 18v tools are a future
during 2030-2055
I really want to look into Direct Solar without batteries also
for low wattage stuff in the house
-
@charliebrownau you can also do a lot with hand tools. I prefer my pull saw for fine work over a circular saw any day. I have an electric hand plane but I usually default to a manual one anyway just because power makes it too easy to go to far too fast sometimes.
-
@charliebrownau I also say as long as the lithium is flowing the 18v battery powered tools are generally pretty good. Definitely better than previous generations of battery operated tools. I remember 9v NiCad drills running out of steam pretty quick. I had a friend the other day running my ryobi drill on full speed for nearly 20 minutes with a mixing attachment and we used about 20% of the battery.
