   @nobullyplz @confederatehobo Good to know I’m not totally remembering wrong. That was one of those formative books as a young kid, seemed like all the war memoirs had that same attitude.

     It wasn't about ambushing or cheating, it was about being aware of everything. Taking in everything at every glance. To see from the corner of your eye. To hit quickly and decisively.
     
     This cheating and cheap shot and ambushing is very jewish. The fights amongst samurai were clearly declared, they just ended quickly. Like pistol duels.

     @bubbafatt @nobullyplz @confederatehobo That’s the myth as it stands today, and it’s been around for hundreds of years, overshadowing the real events of the era. I’m sure there were some that upheld the code, but the samurai were running around with a sword that’s basically designed to slaughter unarmored peasants - kinda hard to buy into the idea that all of them gave their enemies plenty of time and prep to ensure they retained their honor.

     I buy it when they had an audience, yeah. Nobility, people who need to retain their good name in the public eye, etc. likely upheld the honor code…..but all alone in an alley after dark? I doubt they spent much effort on staying honorable with nothing to enforce it.
