Forking the repo, keeping everything as it is, compiling from source to…. own Alex Gleason?
I moderate r/Fediverse and often express my beliefs about this: I don’t care who made the software. I never paid you a dime. You support software freedom the way I do, your software doesn’t contain any inherent biases, I can use it in whatever way I want to.
You made a tool. You didn’t make a tool that can only be used in one way or the other. You made a tool. I’m not going to stop using your tool simply because I disagree with you. I’d only do that if I’d have to pay for your tool.
And if it’s about using software made by someone you disagree with then…. what’s a fork gonna do? 99% of that source code will still be written by the guy you’re trying to avoid. Makes no sense to me…
whatever the fuck is stopping this guy from using soapbox but blocking all the "fashy" instances. just pretend miku made it like you do with everything else. What a non complaint
To be fair, how does Mastodon impose their politics beliefs on others?
They merely ask you to have moderation and stuff if you want to be featured on their website, there are no rules to using Mastodon. The only rule to using the Mastodon name in a domain for example would be to use the Mastodon software.
So how is Mastodon imposing their political beliefs on anyone?
Mastodon actually has deliberate limitations that make things more difficult for users seeking better features in a frontend.
I administer Radiant Garden and I feel incredibly constrained, even as admin. Besides the character limits and quote posting (which I do know how to change), there's the following:
If you enable limited federation, you cannot moderate your allow list. Either you completely permit their content or you don't.
If you enable authorized fetch, public discoverability is destroyed as well as /about. I can't choose what I want to be transparent about.
I cannot block entire TLDs by themselves or entire domain names by themselves. For preventing abusers from using other TLDs or the same domain name to circumvent a block, this is unacceptable.
The mobile UI does not permit switching between timelines without adjusting the address bar links. Also, I cannot see notifications unless I view them through my profile.
No Tag Policy. This means I can't preemptively moderate individual known bad actors unless I get a report.
I cannot filter hell threads at the admin level.
I cannot reject specific lengths of posts at the admin level.
Maybe it's how I set it up, but I'm running 4.0.2+glitch.
