I think Firefish has inherited the horrible Danish translation from Misskey, because why is it using "to register" as the register button???
At some point I'll end up becoming a general Danish translator for software won't I...

It should be "Registrér/Registrer"
@celestial Yes, When you're describing an action someone can take as a form of command, you can add ´ to e (é) to indicate extra pressure on the e sound.
@LunaFoxgirlVT@vt.social Wait danish has a ' accent??? I thought the only non-latin characters/accented characters were capital/lowercase of Å Æ Ø !
@celestial Well, it's optional and mostly just a stylistic thing, you can omit it if you want and it'll still be valid Danish, the reader may just not put that extra pressure on the é if read out loud.
@LunaFoxgirlVT@vt.social Huh ok! Thats neat but kind of annoying, I thought I escaped the accents used in french!
Why is danish so complicated 😣
@celestial yeah, born and raised on Fyn, the Danish island that everyone else just calls a highway lol
I'm just teaching myself Japanese on my own on the side because I have Japanese friends I want to be able to talk to without resorting to machine translation.
@LunaFoxgirlVT@vt.social Ahhh ok, thats good to know! Are you danish? You seem to be fairly knowlegeable and have the flag in your name but you also use a lot of japanese so I wasn't sure.
@celestial I do, and run a company here too.
@LunaFoxgirlVT@vt.social Thats cool! Do you still live in denmark?
@celestial a nightmare, but at least less of a nightmare than running one in most of the rest of europe.
Taxation stuff is a pain in the butt.
@LunaFoxgirlVT@vt.social Yeah kitsunebi! Whats it liking living in and running a company in denmark?
@celestial well, Danish healthcare and social services has the problem that it works for most people, but if you're one of the few that falls between the cracks like me, it's a living nightmare dealing with the system.
Eg. if you're on monetary help you may only leave Denmark 1 day a month. Otherwise you'll lose income. And if you have autism, ADHD, etc. the help you can get varies in quality if you can wait through the 2 year waiting lists.
And for trans healthcare, the waiting lists for bottom surgery is around 10 years long, literally.
@LunaFoxgirlVT@vt.social Really? Whats so nightmareish about living there! But yeah for a company the taxation seems like it would be a royal pain. Worth it though for all the serivces and stuff, at least my perspective as a canadian whos sick of this one-foot-in one-foot-out approach to universal healthcare and such.
@celestial though in many ways, Denmark is better than the rest of Europe, so, while I can complain about falling through the cracks at least I'm not in a country where I'd fall through even harder.
@celestial I've also dealt with the government accusing me of social fraud and spending a month having to fight them with proof that I wasn't commit social fraud, because I live with a friend.
So for a month my housing situation was also tenuous.
@celestial queer acceptance is generally ok, but Denmark is not without its own shitty queerphobic people. But, you at least won’t be in danger here, and most people are chill.
@LunaFoxgirlVT@vt.social Oh yeah I didn't really think about that. ANd falling through the cracks because trans and stuff or other stuff?
Wait why does neurodiversity lead to worse care?? That seems like an odd quirk.
Oh that is actually insainely bad...
Hows trans/queer/autistic acceptance over there?
@celestial because the government wants to save money so that they can give more tax breaks to the rich and themselves, usually hurting the worst off in the process.
@LunaFoxgirlVT@vt.social That sounds incredibly stressful ... I'm sorry you needed to deal with that... why did living with a friend make them think you were doing fraud?
@celestial but it’s not as bad right now as it has been, in 2008 when the right wing party won the election they really screwed up healthcare, nowadays they are a bit more weary about doing that due to a string of scandals about there not being enough money and personnel at hospitals.
@celestial remember, no country on earth is perfect and ever will be. Denmark has its own host of problems, and if you’re thinking of moving countries what you have to consider is not which country is best, but which country sucks the least for you. Denmark is that right now for me, but I do want to move to Japan eventually.
@LunaFoxgirlVT@vt.social That sounds really rough 😟 good that things are somewhat better now at least ...
@celestial the amount of friends I have there.
@LunaFoxgirlVT@vt.social I know no country is perfect, I just didn't realise the scope of problems in denmark. It still seems like a good choice, not that its a choice I will need to make for a while or even ever. I also need to think about oppourtunity cost: even if another coutnry sucks less moving in and stuff may make that not worth it.
What is it about japan that makes you want to move there?
