it's crazy how like, ten years ago I was really obsessed with the idea of wearable computers. Google Glass had just happened a few years prior and been a failure but the idea of being able to right now do things like augment my vision or have a Raspberry Pi strapped to my wrist seemed incredibly cool
but now the more I think about it, the more I have become completely disillusioned with the entire state of technology. I think it's possible that we could have lived in a timeline where wearable tech was actually useful for something other than turning people into even more braindead dopamine addicts, but certain schemes to create portable computing devices have in fact been a disaster for the human race and DIY hackers can only get so far when there's such a huge amount of work that would be necessary to create the proper interfaces to make these things useful for anything that would augment human capabilities rather than actively make us worse
despite the tech industry's image that it hypes up of bringing us the future today with shit like Mars colonization and self-driving cars, the tech industry is honestly the most successful anti-transhumanist project ever realized. it has made humanity a lesser version of itself and there is no escape from it
maybe I should just retvrn to flip phone and MP3 player and maybe also a really shitty low-powered device with a slider keyboard to use as a PDA for taking notes in org-mode on the go
