   It might be fun to judge the "dog mom" or cat lady in our society today, but bear in mind that the people who go into that ersatz lifestyle do so because they have just about no one to love. Or worse yet, they are told by the culture to NOT love anyone, and so they try to fulfill those instincts with their pets.
   
   A dog requires you to be gracious to it. They need you to be merciful. They need a firm hand but a loving one. In a word, they need selfless Agape love. And there are many individuals who have no one at home from whom they may learn this. Something calls them toward practicing Agape, but the pagan culture around us wants them lonely and suicidal. A dog is a consolation prize. Pity and help them, do not scorn them.

     @SuperLutheran I agree with you. I know a woman who did have children but neglected them for the sake of her obsession with her small dogs. I dont know why she does it but its horrible
