@AidanTTIerian@Moon >(Your Steam games all live in a folder called “steamapps” — when was the last time you clicked on that?) More recently than the last time I opened Steam lmao
@Moon@AidanTTIerian >The primary issue is that the code researchers write, run at the command line, needs to be told exactly how to access the files it’s working with — it can’t search for those files on its own. Some programming languages have search functions, but they’re difficult to implement and not commonly used. THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE WITH CODE IT CAN'T MAGICALLY KNOW WHAT FILE YOU WANT YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO TELL IT WHERE TO FIND IT
@AidanTTIerian@Zerglingman@Moon Kids don't know how to use computers. This post aged like fine wine and becomes more true every time I read it again. I should archive it before it eventually disappears.
@BowsacNoodle@Moon@AidanTTIerian Extremely based anti-tldr. By default, I make things as succinct and simple as possible. If it is long and complex, it is because it is necessarily long and complex!
@Moon@AidanTTIerian@BowsacNoodle >Jobs wasn't an idiot YES HE FUCKING WAS OSX UI IS THE MOST GARBAGE SHIT I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED I HAVE NOT YET HAD THE DISPLEASURE OF ATTEMPTING TO NAVIGATE IOS
@BowsacNoodle@Moon@AidanTTIerian Reading the definitions of "can't use a computer" is killing me. I like to pretend these people don't actually exist, or that they don't actually try to use computers.
@Zerglingman@AidanTTIerian@Moon I regularly encounter this in the wild. People understand things like how to use a program and maybe interact that with another program, but that is where it ends. It's like understanding that a car has a break pedal and first gear (automatic) and not knowing how to reverse or use the gasoline. We've made roadways to allow for these sorts of people, never bothering to ensure they also learned of the higher gears, the gas pedal, and the rest of the vehicle's capability. Very sad.
@BowsacNoodle@Moon@AidanTTIerian I also believe that people should maintain their own vehicles, which is why I do not own a car; I grew up maintaining cars as an assistant to my dad, and I consider it an abysmal task. I do not expect every car owner to have an engine hoist. But I expect them to know who in the neighbourhood does, and know when they ought to ask to borrow it. I don't expect them to be able to fix a bent head, but I expect them to know how to detect a bent head and toss it. For myself, I am going to keep using the vehicle that I can pick up and carry if it all goes to shit. The vehicle where the max bolt torque is <20cspb (cheeseslices per burger).
@TURBORETARD9000@Moon@AidanTTIerian >I have one question for these policy makers: Without reference to Wikipedia, can you tell me what the difference is between The Internet, The World Wide Web, a web-browser and a search engine? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA STOP I am going to be doing this to everyone I can get a line to next election cycle. And if they can't I am going to tell them to fuck off forever and let computer nerds make decisions about computers.
@Zerglingman@AidanTTIerian@Moon Japanese sport and off-road aka Enduro style. Single hex head screw and great gas mileage. If not that, bicycles are great.
@Zerglingman@TURBORETARD9000@AidanTTIerian@Moon I somehow doubt these people only lack basic understanding in IT matters. Ask them to make a sandwich without help and watch the kitchen burn...
Only hope is in smaller parties where people actually live as part of our society.
@AidanTTIerian@Zerglingman@Moon There are valid arguments for and against the concept of folder structures but "kids don't know about them and I am too lazy to teach" is not a valid argument.
