Has anyone else noticed IGN reviews starting to not be complete jokes lately? They are doing tech comparisons and game reviews that are fairly decent now. Was there some kind of management shakeup at the company lately? It's been different for a few months now.

@Jim Probably got nervous because other online mags were going out of business
The money is drying up

@monsterislandcolonizer @Jim Just imagine, there was literally a gaming boom during COVID. Retro games prices went up, console games and system sales went up too... And The Gamer literally closed during that time. It's hilarious because it doesn't add up. Of course, they blamed everything, including Gamergate, while at the same time making virtue signaling comments in their final farewell, but didn't blame themselves
As long as I've been on the Internet, gaming journalism was hated. I remember being surprised at how much people hated it, and then finding out myself. If you listen to all of these Guru Larry videos, you can clearly see that it was a problem everywhere already, even on those old Euro PCs magazines and the magazines being already a bit too cozy with the people who advertised in it
Otherwise, all of this shit is entirely earned. Game journos were entirely responsible for the weird ass "muh Nintendo kiddy" shit, later on the Nintendoom was so fucking crazy, to such level that journos would take a dump even in simple game announcements that Nintendo had to make the Nintendo Direct. I remember explicitly stopping following opinion pieces and most journos pieces around Mario Galaxy because they basically spoiled the entire fucking game and I couldn't take the Nintendoom anymore, opting to pretty much just read announcements and game features. What else do you even need? If you're really on the edge you can now easily see videos of people playing a bit and then you can judge if you want it or not
The fuckers basically obsoleted themselves

@coolboymew @Jim I have a Halo 2-era OXM magazine in my closet, maybe I'll flip through it and see what the articles were like and compare to this crap

@monsterislandcolonizer @Jim Probably a tad better. It was still the era where they would have sexy video games gal pinup covers and such
It's the next gen that went to absolute shit with AAA and Hollywood level marketing money, and with Hollywood marketing money also came the focus groups and the cleaning up of everything. The same shitlib who were responsible for that push will now make you believe they're good "leftist" fighting the good fight when they basically were on both side of ruining gaming by promoting AAA hard and then ruining gaming and gaming journo by promoting SJW shit

Basically the horsemen of the gaming journo apocalysm in that link above, their brain has been so destroyed by politics that the first thing they mention about a paid gaming journo subscription thing is "capitalism"
