     @kkarhan @liaizon I had a brief exchange with Intel about NUC Compute Element, but the design information and reference design is under NDA, so you can't make an open product around it.

     @kkarhan @liaizon if you really need x86, i would probably use something like https://embedded.avnet.com/product/msc-sm2s-ryz/ but AVNet never returned my mails about this and it doesn't really seem to be available.

     @mntmn @liaizon it's not using the NUC element, but the #UCFF board form factor aka "NUC" or oftentimes referenced as 4x4" ...

     It would certainly make a board pretty chunky but AFAICT it's possible...

     @kkarhan @liaizon @frameworkcomputer i see. we just took a practical approach and went with modules that were available and turned them into a de-facto standard. meanwhile, we have several swap-in processor/memory modules available. i'm also more focused on ARM and RISC-V. moreover, marketing a chunky laptop is not easy, speaking from experience.

     @mntmn @liaizon and whilst @frameworkcomputer did release an #Upgrade board and even a 3D-printed case - which is an uprade from all the #ThinkPad|s that ever were released - they still have a somewhat proprietary form factor [which is justifyable given then thinn-ness of their device!]

     @mntmn @liaizon Because those are #SingleVendor / #SingleProvider solutions and make you dependent on a single source for boards.

     Whereas everyone can design and build boards compliant to the UCFF form factor.

     It's kinda like #MiniITX but smaller.

     Also the idea is to take the concept from the Desktop PCs, as one isn't throwing away the entire case, Monitor and HIDs when they swap the mainboard - so why should we tolerate the same on mobile devices?
