Intrinsically, it will attempt to squeeze every usable bit out of a resource provided the input to output ratio makes sense. Rather than fight against this, consider complimenting it with whatever approach ties to what can fix the problem as you see it. I see too much chicken little concern over the climate falling to pieces. Ecosystems are a LOT more elastic than the average person thinks, and you of all people know this.
