   @60sRefugee @nyrath yeah. I have pointed out before that most of the silly-sounding nuclear advice like this (and "duck & cover") was clearly written during the period where we were expecting one Hiroshima per major city, and the advice would indeed help you not get flashblinded or have windows explode in your eyes. It just aged poorly as both sides built thousands of icbms.

   And yeah, it didn't help if you were close enough to get vaporized, but... What advice would?

     @nyrath It's dated 1950, when nukes were 15-kiloton yield and delivered by propeller driven bombers that we would presumably have an air raid siren warning. Sure if you're near the epicenter you're a goner, but based on the experience in Japan mitigating flash/burn/flying debris injuries in the more distant areas was worthwhile. Utterly obsolete advice fifteen years later of course.
