Yes. If I had to choose a favorite, maple would be it.

I haven't tried non sugar maples but I believe it still works just less concentrated. I only have one sugar variety myself but I have tapped it oncea few years ago and am thinking about doing it again next year. I was also considering trying a few of the others. I didn't get much but I only drilled 2 taps and I might have been a little late. -
