Yes the types matter but more importantly the populations and concentrations matter.
This is why humans can walk through a moldy rain forest and not have lung disease after they leave it.
Keep in mind that bacteria can excrete i. Your body and if you don’t detox that waste via immune response, sweating, throwing up our your own excrement, that build up will harm you do, much like if your house were heavily infested with rats that defecated everywhere.
But even harmful bacteria can be kept in check with proper precautions, producing no symptoms in the host.
Not everyone who comes in contact with someone who has strep throat (from group A Streptococcus bacteria) gets it.
So yeah, no germ theory, just shoddy health practices giving rise to bacteria mismanagement.
