   Computers used to be *fun* to use. And simple actions could surprise and delight. They all seem to have forgotten how computers could be FUN.

   From something as “simple” as an icon to launch a game…

     @kwramm "it used to have" is part of what kills me. What used to be a picasso smile during the bootup process has been reduced to a tiny icon. Thank goodness it's still there, but it's one of the last remaining remnants of what gave system 7+ personality. I'm typing on my MBP M1 right now, and it's a great machine. But it's lost a lot of its soul. Still the best option out there IMO, but virtually zero fanciful playfulness to be had in 2023.

     @amigalove To the defense of Mac OS, it used to have its Dogcow and it's the only OS where the finder/explorer is smiling at you. But yeah, before the age of copycat UIs, things were a bit more interesting...

     @kwramm Hey - you're in Singapore?

     I lived in Singapore a billion years ago when I was a kid. From 1st-3rd grade; went to Singapore American School. My parents were both teachers. (This would have been '77-'79). Miss the food options over there. But not the humidity! ;) Super cool, cheers Robert.

     Probably the most famous (or near the top) is Secret of Monkey Island. It's awesome.

     @amigalove Agreed! This is exactly why I started using #GNULinux, #Arch and now #NixOS, with highly customized window manager desk environments. It puts the fun and personality back in desktop computing, makes my work more fun and reminds me of the Glory days of my youth on my #Amiga!

     @amigalove oh man!! I only have faint memories of this sort of thing from when I was really young but it should’ve stuck around!! I mostly remember the KidPix icon losing its hair I think? 💭
