Not that I'll play much this time. I haven't played vidya in quite a while, it's just been work and studying for a cert work wants me to get. It's OSCP (ethical hacking) and it's a bitch of an exam even with my prior experience. Ever since we got hacked they're trying to get an in-house red team. We lost a couple clients from the hack so they're trying to build their rep back up. I have half a mind just to make them pay me extra for all the studying/experimenting I've been doing. They already offered to pay for up to 3 attempts as well as any future certs (that can apply to work) I go for so it's not too bad
@Zerglingman While I prefer and support free software for my usage I'm not totally against running proprietary stuff for entertainment or if the alternative doesn't fit my goal. Minetest is "okay" but it has that jank feel that keeps it from feeling like an actual game and more like a proof of concept
@lelouchebag I want to explore nodecore more. I like its baseline premise. Not sure if there's enough in it to warrant long play. To be honest, I don't really understand the appeal of minecraft to begin with. It invites you to explore and then doesn't really reward that. If I knew how to solve the design problem, I'd probably do it on minetest.
@Zerglingman If you're stuck in that rut I'd install a modpack with a questing mod, it has a set of objectives and typically teaches you how to use the mod. Blightfall is the best since it's a whole map built around the mods, but even something like agrarian skies can get you started. I have some fun in survival just mining and getting stronk, I don't really build or explore
@Zerglingman >agrarian skies is grinding Oh yeah it is in the early game. It encourages you to automate stuff. I felt real clever when I automated everything and had infinite resources, then used those to automate other stuff. Do you like terraria?
@lelouchebag Lately I've been getting into 0ad properly. I'm still bad at it but I can usually beat medium bots now.
:rmsshiggy: Also SWAT: Aftermath, which really deserves a port away from Bl*zz*rd (and V*lv* but that has other problems too). :rmsshiggy: Also Din's Curse.
I want to get #fvc going again, it was mostly FOSS stuff, there are actually a lot of options, and I've come across more since then, but only mk2 ever showed up so I canned it indefinitely.
@tyler@lelouchebag There was a thing for making custom gamemodes in Combat Evolved, we made it using that. It's just: - pistols only - infinite grenades - max hogs (both types) - max shields - movespeed adjustment - crazy king
Would be cool if you would ZIP it up and share that too lol - would be easier than installing it for a lot of people, if they would trust the software though, that is.
