     @noyoushutthefuckupdad @lonelyranger half of Led Zeppelin I is leftovers from the Yard Birds and they stole most of the rest, but the performance was the highlight, not the songs themselves

     Also true. Queen did not peak in their first album, but they did hone their skills both on stage and in the studio. And their 80s material (well, post-The Game) was definitely not their greatest. Not saying bad, but they did not make another Jazz or a Night at the Opera

     @leyonhjelm @lonelyranger sometimes a band's first album is sloppy and amateurish, and then they do something similar and better with the 2nd-4th albums. but even good bands tend to stagnate after that.

     For me, most bands peak in their first album not because it’s first but because it’s the culmination of years of gitting gud and then doing their best job on the best right or ten songs of the hundreds they’ve tried.

     The reason Van Halen was good through 1984 is Eddie had a backlog of great ideas long before Van Halen I.

     In the 90s I remember an interview with one of the guys from STP and he was asked when they’d tour to support the new album. He responded they’d tour as soon as they learned their new songs. That’s not how you make a great album.

     @lonelyranger I saw them this year and was disappointed at how many songs were from 10,000 Days and Fear Inoculum. I don't really like those two albums; they could have played Lateralus start to finish and I would have been much happier.
     
     great visuals, though. felt like I was in an Alex Grey painting.
