Don't think too hard. Don't reason yourself into stupidity. Every well ran organizations has strict rules for anything slightly dangerous for a reason. Think about how many safety procedures there are when dealing with physical dangers. Put guardrails on the walkway even if nobody walks near the edge. Use two softy straps even when one will suffice. Hardhats for everybody anywhere on site. You can reason yourself past all of these rules, but they work. It's about tilting the probability of failure as much in your favor as possible; prematurely. So is it with opsec. 'Don't give strangers your passwords' should be so basic it needn't be said.
