   I got a onn 4k tv box today from wal-mart for $20. If you are looking for a kodi box, this would scratch that itch. I was able to directly install kodi from the play store on it instead of having to sideload it the way I did on my firestick. It comes preloaded with your usual amount of apps for streaming services that I could not possibly care less about; I just want a gadget that plays my animu and movies in the living room, and one that's also small enough to take with me on trips.
   
   This does that. I tested out x264 and x265 videos from one kodi instance to the one on the box through my wifi network and they played without issue. So that's good. But where I will give the firestick the edge is in otg support. I had to try out a number of apps before I found that I could access a usb stick via otg, which in this case was file manager +. Unfortunately this device does not support ntfs natively like its previous generation did. I did try a workaround by installing rar support into kodi and then trying to play a split volume rar in kodi, but it did not work. It did play the other mkv and mp4 videos from the stick but it would appear that I have to keep their sizes under the fat32 maximum.
   
   To be thorough, I also tested youtube on it and it played fine. It also supports chromecast and that seemed to work acceptably when I put that to the test.
   
   Overall rating: The remote that came with it is also okay quality. As far as downsides, it lacks support for standards like HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos. I would have given it a much higher rating if I could have used ntfs formatted devices on it. Still, this is not bad for $20. If you have a dumb tv and want to look at youtube and use kodi to watch your stacks of downloaded anime, tv shows, and movies on it, this'll get it done. If you give sales presentations you could carry one in your backpack and hook it up to a hotel room tv to show off a promo video. I'll bring mine when I visit some fellow otakus in Japan and want to show them some anime they haven't seen yet.

     Out of curiosity I'm going to see if my firestick (running an older version of Kodi) can play a larger video (15gb) divided into 500mb rars from a fat32 USB stick mounted through otg.

     Addendum: I was able to use MLUSB USB Mounter to get the device to read and play back material from a drive formatted in exfat. Very glad that between split rars and this I don't have to keep re-encoding my collection
