     Go stand around in an apron facing product in the canned goods aisle and wait for women to ask where the allspice is.

     Take a cooking class, a pottery class, in short... do something and don't hold any expectations on meeting anyone.

     I mean, the church part isn't wrong. You have to get involved in your church and make friends with the older generation who have kids around your age. If they like you enough you'll get the hookup.
     
     Otherwise hobbies are an excellent way to find like-minded people.

Single women hide where only other women can find them but completely out of the radar of men: pet shops, grocery stores, dancing classes, crochet classes, baking classes, corporate cantines... The more kafkaesque, the better. If it's something that men could find slightly fun, it's not there.
