@Xkeeper @oblomov I mean, the real problem is that the OEM pre sets up Windows and ensures it works which is not the case with Linux. I was thinking "I should fix this by buying a laptop that ships with Linux out of the box" but it turns out those cost ~2x as much as Windows laptops. Kinda funny. "Pay twice as much for free OS"

StarLabs, in the UK, makes some lovely custom thin and light ones. Tuxido, etc., in Europe have rebadged ones, as did System76 last I checked in the US. Then there’s Framework which doesn’t come with Linux preinstalled afaik but can be bought without an OS and has good Linux support from what I hear (and is modular).

I think the last one I found was a very low-end Dell (costed something like 200 or 250€?) several years ago but it wasn't more expensive than the Windows equivalent, even though I know MS has some deals with OEMs that prevents them from offering Linux options at less than Windows options, or they don't get the bulk OEM pricing.
